PERVIRGIN!!!

Hi, all! I’m writing today to clue you into one of my favorite projects I’ve ever been involved with. A few years back, Nkechi Chibueze wrote, produced and starred in a one-woman show called PERVIRGIN. The show was about her experience of being a thirty-five-year-old “Supervirgin” who had never been so much as kissed. Beginning on January 22, she’ll be debuting an updated version of her show at the Hopkins Black Box Theater at LSU in Baton Rouge.

It's been a joy to help Kechi mount this production. I’ve helped with the writing, and some of the non-technical side of directing. One of the things that drew me to Kechi were her enormous heart, her commitment to locate and amplify the inner light cast by her subjects—be it through photography, through teaching, or through writing and performing jokes. It is wonderful watch her to apply that process to herself and her own experiences.

Kechi has come a long way since she originally created this show, and it was a natural decision to update the material for this new era of her life.

Kechi isn’t the first person to wonder whether romance is designed for people like her, and she explores this question with humor, poignancy, and an infectious joy. It’s a genuine pleasure to see this show roar back onto the stage! Come check it out, and I promise, you won’t be disappointed. Get your tickets HERE!
